As teams head into the Winter Meetings, the Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and LA Dodgers seem to be in the needs of a proven third basemen. The list of potential available third basemen through trades are: Ty Wigginton (Astros) , Scott Rolen (Cardinals), Chad Tracy (Diamondbacks), Mark Reynolds (Diamondbacks), Adrian Beltre (Mariners), Jorge Cantu (Marlins), Melvin Mora (Orioles), Mike Lowell (Red Sox), Garrett Atkins (Rockies). Of the players on this list the best bang for the buck kind of guys are going to be Atkins, Mora, Wigginton and Beltre. Mora is still putting up very solid numbers with 20+ homers and 100+ RBI and Wigginton could give Minnesota that third basemen it is looking for without having to give up too much because of financial needs of teams. If the Brewers keep J.J. Hardy they could look to deal an outfielder, possibly Mike Cameron in order to fill their needs at third base. The Tigers do have Carlos Guillen but with his body starting to get older on him, his numbers may start to drop. The Dodgers do have options with DeWitt and the Pirates will take anyone who will produce a .270 average with at least 12 home runs.
